My marina career began as an 11-year old pumping boat gas in Indiana, since then I have managed marinas and harbors all over the Southeast U.S. including South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and the Florida Keys (a world unto themselves).

Around the docks I am known as Kirby Cay. I am a Certified Marina Manager (CMM), and I teach the Customer Focus & Marketing courses for the International Marina Institute (IMI). I am very passionate about the marina field, bringing an attitude of enjoyment to members and staff alike.

I have been an avid boater all my life, and I am as comfortable behind the helm of a sail boat as piloting an off shore powerboat. I have competed in Regattas from the Florida Keys to Lake Lanier, was once one of the youngest American Water Ski Association certified boat drivers (a long time ago), have been at the helm of a U.S. Navy Guided Missal Destroyer and a Nashville River Cruise Boat, drove boats on the set of the movie “True Lies,” been a former champion show and tournament water skier, and genuinely enjoy every day I can spend at, on, or near the water.

I am also active in the Florida Clean Boating Partnership, on the National Marina Day Committee (2004 National Chairperson), a former officer in Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Club, and with various other community, industry, and church related groups.
